‪Aggrieved residents of Michika Local Government area of Adamawa
state, which was recently liberated from the control of the Boko Haram
insurgents, on Thursday protested over the venue scheduled by the
independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the forthcoming
general elections.‬
‪The irate residents in their thousands marched to the headquarter
of the INEC in Yola, the state capital, demanding to be allowed to cast
their votes in Michika not Yola as it was earlier scheduled by the
INEC.‬
‪They said Michika and Madagali were liberated along with Gombi,
Hong, Mubi and Mania local government areas, saying that what then is
the rationale of allowing other eligible voters to vote in their areas
while those from Michika and Madagali are to vote in Yola.‬
‪Saying that in the alternative their elections in Michika and
Madagali should be postponed just as that of Gwoza is postponed.‬
‪The protesters barricaded the main entrance to the lNEC office
carrying placards with inscriptions, “We want to vote at home” “80%
percent of the population of Michika are now back home and why should
INEC compel us to vote in Yola”“INEC, do not disenfranchise us
and allow us to perform our civic responsibilities with our kith and
kins”7, the placards reads.â€
