The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Borno State, Alhaji Gambo Lawan, has rejected the results of the April 11 governorship election in the state, alleging that the scores were allocated.
Lawan who briefed the media on Monday after the incumbent governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, was declared winner of the election, said his party agents had already shown displeasure towards the whole exercise which was fraught with noticeable anomalies. “There was no election in Borno. I totally reject the results because the scores were just allocated to a party. All our agents did not sign the results,” he said.
He maintained the governorship poll “was fraught with widespread irregularities, money inducement, violence and thuggery.” He also denied collecting N250 million from the governor of the state, Kashim Shettima before the election, challenging the governor to come out and deny or confirm the allegation.
Lawan said the rumour that PDP did not have a candidate on the eve of the election was orchestrated by the state government under APC in gain undue advantage. He also said the general delay in the distribution of electoral materials violated electoral law even as he disclosed that the party would decide whether or not to approach the tribunal at later date
